Glad things went OK. Must admit the Dales Weekend of orienteering was alright on the whole but not as good as I had hoped. My B&B was excellent and the local pub in Cracoe served very good meals and was only a walking distance away from where I was staying but the orienteering itself was not so good.

Saturday up on the moor to the north of Malham Tarn was OK but very much a runner’s course, rather than technical, which now puts me at a disadvantage but at least the weather was good, apart from the wind, which must have affected your bikers as well.

Sunday, on the high moor to the East of the Tarn was not so good. The vegetation was ungrazed and so quite high, covering parts of the limestone pavements; the weather – mist and clag – suited me fine, as am better now at technical rather than straight running; but the map left an awful lot to be desired and caused quite a few of us to waste a lot of time. I was so fed up, in fact, that towards the end I knew I had missed out a control but could not be bothered to go back for it.

I now wish I had done the bike-o on Sunday instead; as I was staying in Cracoe, I could have easily got to it in time for a reasonable start but, there you go. Next time!

Best wishes to all and glad Karen was able to compete this time,

    Mary
