Here’s David Day’s report for Sunday:
When planning I try to give plenty of route choice options, both between controls & generally over the area. The lack of unanimity of riders’ tracks seems to have confirmed the aim, every control on the map was visited. 18 of the controls were on BWs, pretty well every BW on the competition map had a control on it. I like to use big circles & control numbers, cutting the circles where they obscure detail; I now realise that #14 obscured a private track which 3 riders explored before realising their mistake – apologies for this oversight.
Nobody rode off the map today so another tick for you all.
- Top scorer with 508 points was M21 Sam Morris who was also the weekend winner;
- M50s were 2nd & 3rd:Andy Conn & Killian Lomas 483.
- Watch out in future for Y18 Isaac Pressley on 473.
Leading Ebike was Sheila Pearce 457, 1st W50 was Claire Riley 402 who had ditched usual Mixed partner David Cowgill for the weekend to finish champion lady. Some newbies turned up for the event & some forgot to enter in advance but we squeezed them in, we hope to see some of you at future events.
What made the whole weekend more successful were the efforts taken by Ivy Bank Staycation to make us all welcome & feed what appeared to be the 5000 at times. When I arrived on Friday, boss Sam had just obtained & installed a replacement dishwasher when the original had stopped working& flooded the kitchen; it can be a stressful life running a business but Sam and his assistants Christine &Jenny went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable, our own dedicated Bike O area was another bonus. All this at a paltry £10 per person per night negotiated beforehand – we do like good value in Yorkshire, you can thank me next time you see me in the bar.
The areas for Saturday and Sunday had different characteristics, we hope the competitors enjoyed both challenges equally.
