BMBO Championship Weekend Kirkby Malzeard

72 riders took on the 5 hour challenge of the 1st Day of the 2025 BMBO Score championships , in what can only be described as damp conditions, although the threatened downpours didn’t really occur till the drive home on Sunday.  I had planned a course that I was hoping would be unclearable and Tom Gibbs proved me wrong riding 101km in 4 hours 58 minutes but listening to other riders they had dropped points as they were unsure if they could clear up , Killian even did a long in out for a 5 pointer on the moors that made him 5 points late still he needed the exercise.

Most riders went for clockwise loop and this seemed to give more options at the end as those going anticlockwise dropped the 25 points in Colsterdale thinking it wasn’t worth the 6km deviation.  One of the advantages of MapRun is we can see where you went and the pair who decided to go west out of Colsterdale to control 11 probably realised why we had removed it as a route choice as it took them 45 minutes  of bog trotting as the nice track you start on soon runs out.

Apologies to those who thought private track meant you couldn’t use it rather than we have permission on the day to use it

Winner on the day was Tom Gibbs with 527 points second was Andy Conn with 511 points and Sam Morris was 3rd with 506 points . First E-bike was Sheila Pearce with 478 points and first lady was Claire Riley with 415 points.  Both Under 18s did really well with Oliver Dencher leading with 432 points versus Isaac Pressley with 395 points. Top M60 in 10th was Bob Cherry with 445 points, 1stM70 was Sundays planner David Day with 365 points.

So after Sundays more navigationally challenging  3 hour ride the summary scores gave the following champions:

  • Overall ( and 1st M21)  was Sam Morris with 1014 points who came closest to clearing up
  • 2nd overall and 1st M50 was Andy Conn with 1003 points narrowly beating Tom Gibbs with 1002 points
  • 1st M60 and 12th  Overall was Bob Cherry with 845 points
  • 1st Y18 and 11th Overall  was Isaac Pressley who managed to overturn his Saturday deficit over Oliver Dencher and scored  868 points Isaac still has his glass and non alcoholic beer to collect
  • 1st E Bike and 7th Overall was Sheila Pearce with 935 points
  • 1st Generation pair were Kevin and Mtthew Goodwin with 740 points and 28th Overall
  • 1st Over 50 Lady  and 38th overall ( 3rd Lady overall ) was Angela Brand-Barker with 660 points
  • 1st M40 and 5th Overall was Tom Davies with 959 points
  • 1st M70 and 32nd Overall was Steve Willis who was glad David Day had planned Sunday and didn’t get double points with 690 points
  • 1st and only mix team was Jack Higham and Amelie Wayte who were 48th overall with 561 points
  • 1st Lady  and 1st Under 50 lady was Claire Riley who was 19th Overall with 816 points ( beating her normal partner in crime Dave Cowgill who was 22ndoverall)

Congratulations to all our winners and thank you all for attending . I  still have some tweaking to do to the master spreadsheet so will get this finished over the weekend and publish.

Hopefully you all enjoyed the first national championship with MapRun , there were very few issue and no missing controls.  As we said one of the advantages with maprun is we can see where you all went so if you wonder how Tom went so well on Sunday take a look at his route ( if you look at Sunday you may also were he didn’t go quite so well) The results are all MapRun Results  for Saturday and Here for Sunday. However this has picked up a few illegal route choices and riders have been docked points for this, please make sure you keep to the published bridleways and tracks to ensure we are still able to use the area , there were also some complaints about gates being left open overheard in the campsite , again we should always leave gates in the position we found them .
