It’s exactly 20 years since I planned my first ever MBO course at the Eborienteers event on Allerthorpe Common  in 1997!! Thanks to Tim Evans for planning today’s excellent course, Jens for another excellent map and the staff at the Smiths Arms for coping with an unexpected number of riders. It’s a beautiful area between Harrogate and Wharfedale with pleasant country lanes and bridleways without too many severe hills. It was brilliant to see so many riders who all enjoyed the course and congratulations to our first ever female overall winner – Pippa Archer (W21) with 400 points. The other class winners were Steve Turland & Tim Harvey M40-395, Tony Thornley M60-380 (in his first MBO event), Geoff Moorhouse & Andrea Foster X60-295, Steve & Ben Collins (Gen-294), Karen Blackburn W70-294. I thoroughly enjoyed my ride as usual and decided to head west which worked well until the less than excellent bridleway east of #16. My route was 1 6 26 11 21 2 17 27 7 28 13 3 20 12 22 16 23 19 9. I’ve asked the leading riders to post their routes here so that you can see where they went.

Lovely day out as always, thanks to all the organisers. Did you get any grief from the shooters in the foret at Stainburn Moor? They were a bit disgruntled that they apparently hadn’t been warned of the event, though I did my best to pacify by pointing out that few riders would be going through (and probably none went off the main track).

Glad you enjoyed your ride. The shoot hadn’t been warned as we were just using the public bridleway and they didn’t seem unhappy when I went past.

    Here is Pippa’s route
    1, 16, 6, 26, 11, 21, 2, 17, 27, 7, 28, 13, 3, 20, 23, 19, 14, 24, 15, 18, 30, 10.
I don’t carry a GPS but make the distance approximately 37km. I suspect a fair few other people were moving faster but playing it safe seems to have paid off for me

    Great Result, Pippa!
And really pleasing to see so many women competing at today’s event.
So, as winner of the new Vet Women category, here’s my route.
I always get lost in towns, so going west was always going to be the plan.
    1, 16, 6, 26,11, 21, 2, 17, 27, 7, 28, 13, 3, 20, 23, 19, 10
About 30km and one minute late, thanks to the traffic lights near Shaw Green.
Thanks to Steve, Tim and Jens for an excellent event in a good area for winter riding.
Extra thanks to Steve for 20 years of events which have always set the standard in organising, mapping and planning that other areas of the country have yet to catch up with.

Great event – seems we went against the general flow in a clockwise direction. Lost time on the swampy trail between control 16 and 23 but enjoyed exploring a new area. Our route was 5,10,30,20,15,24,14,29,4,8,3,20,12,22,16,23,19,9. Many thanks to the organisers.
