Event HQ
The next event HQ is in the sports centre that was part of the old Raincliffe School in Scarborough. Travelling into Scarborough can be tricky on a Bank Holiday, although the later start will probably miss most of the day trippers. The fastest way to the HQ will be on the A170 over Racecourse road. Avoid the A64 on Seamer Road as this always backs up with Beach traffic. There is a back route to the HQ through Forge Valley turning off at East Ayton. If traffic is heavy this will be the fastest way. See the map below.

Parking
There should be enough parking at the HQ as parts of the old school can be used. Ignore the Buses Only and No Entry markings on the road as these are from the one-way system used when the school was open. The White Rose Orienteering event should have finished by the time we are arriving however competitors from this event may still be around. Marshals will guide you to available spaces and parking is always available on Lady Edith’s Drive to the West of the entrance if full in the grounds.

Event Information
The start is at the entrance to the school with the finish further up the drive, both will be well marked and manned on the day. The course was checked today (Wednesday) and riding conditions are very good. There is one small ford that is ridable. There is rain forecast in the next few days but this shouldn’t impact the course. The cinder track (Route 1 cycleway) from Ravenscar to Scarborough can be busy with dog walkers and other cyclists, particularly towards Scarborough, if you use this track during the event please be careful of other track users as it can be a very fast in places.

NYMBO Summer Season – Event 6

Scarborough

HQ Raincliffe School Sports Hall

The next event is based round the bridleways and roads north of Scarborough, with the HQ at the old Raincliffe school sports hall. The course skirts Broxa forest and the East Yorkshire coast and riders should be rewarded with some impressive views over the North Sea at multiple points in the route.

The map takes in the areas of Harwood Dale and Staintondale and the old Whitby-Scarborough railway line that is part of the national cycle network. Riders can expect some fast gravel and single tracks that are largely mud free even in wet conditions. Some of the bridleways are rarely used so can be overgrown, expect to be dodging nettles and brambles at some point.

The countdown is on for our two events – which are just FIVE days apart so it’s a good time to get your entries in and plan your weekends!

First up is the traditional White Rose event on the August Bank Holiday Monday (31st). Details here for the White Rose Weekend – it’s based at the former site of Raincliffe School in Scarborough.
