Thanks to all those who ventured out when the weather forecast was poor although it never got worse than drizzle, some of those with waterproofs found themselves overheating. As one competitor said ‘on a day like this it’s easy just to stay at home, so this event gave me an incentive to get out & do something.’

I tried to offer a wide variety of minor roads & BWs with decisions to be made at most controls on route options. Every control was visited & there was no clear formula for success. The BWs at Bents House, from Kirkby Malzeard to Holmes Farm & the one S of Biggins House would be new to most of you. Use the access code 6863 if you want to look at the tracks for this event. Some of you may have spotted mosaics scattered around the area; when linked together they form the Crackpots Mozaic Trail.

More riders than normal were late back with some severely penalised. There were a few instances of riders not following the BW at Galphay Woods but taking the [easier] farm track instead. They have apologised & the organisers in this instance have decided to take no further action, some events recently have deducted points for similar transgressions.

Thanks to the village hall cafe for hosting us, feeding us & providing space to socialise before & after your rides; sorry that the pub has closed – that would have been an option as a venue.

Overall winner = Andy Conn M50, 403 pts; 2nd = Martin Edwards M40, 360; 3rd = Stephen Collins M50, 345; Paul Dobson was M60 winner, 340; Steve Willis top M70, 315.

Ladies winner = Angela Brand-Barker W60, 356; 2nd = Claire Riley W40, 313; 3rd = Helen Bagley W60, 230. Top E-bike was Ray Morriss with 350.

Thank you David and other helpers.
Enjoyed the event, needed a different strategy to get round some controls on what is essentially a road bike. I thought the Village Hall/Hackfall cafe made a very good event centre.

I second the event centre /cafe point Karen , what a great location it would make for a winter event too! Dave R
