2013 Draft Fixtures

Here is the first draft for next year so please let me know what you think about the dates, venues and lengths. Thanks to everyone who offered to plan one of these events. If you were thinking of volunteering you will have to wait until 2014!!

NYMBO League 2013draft

I have not approached any landowners for permission or checked with BMBO so please do not circulate them as there will be changes. The organisers of OvergroundUnderground at Ingleton have asked if we could hold the event on Monday instead of Saturday. It is a bank holiday but what do you think? Andrew Windrum is also planning an MTBO (linear) event near York on October 20th (provisionally). The draft NEMBOS fixtures are also available on the NEMBOS site.

Hope to see you at Bishop Wilton on December 8th

Hambleton Inn Results

Please let me know if there are any mistakes in the results.

53 riders enjoyed the autumn sunshine.

It was still foggy as the first riders arrived at the top of Sutton Bank but fortunately the sun burnt off the mist before the first riders started – unlike our previous visit in August when only 1 rider set off. Thanks to John Dixon for checking the course and running the start and finish which allowed me to get out for a proper ride. I rode non-competitively as I suggested a few changes to the course for the August event so I had a good idea which way I wanted to go but I now know that I can’t ride 46k in 2 hours. Like many riders I was late partly due to the tough climb back up to the Hambleton Inn but also due to the brilliant weather, stunning scenery and picturesque villages in this corner of North Yorkshire.
Congratulations to the winners and hopefully we will see as many riders at the next event which is on Saturday 8th December at the Fleece Inn in Bishop Wilton on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds.
I am starting to sort out the programme for next year so please let me know if you would like to plan an event. I am intending to organise a similar series of 9 events with 5 to count and a mixture of 3,4 and 5 hour events. There will be a Novice (half-price) option next year instead of the 2 hour course which didn’t work. Please let me know if you want to see any other changes or want to suggest any new areas.
It is the BMBO AGM at Eyam next Saturday so please attend if you can – or let the committee know your views on anything involving our sport so that it can be discussed.
Hopefully, I’ll see you at another event soon
Steve
PS We have got the same 5 planners for the NEMBOS league which will defintely run from April to September next year

Planner’s Comments
Originally we were looking at Pateley Bridge for the event centre but having been there at least twice before, I really wanted a change.  Meeting the lady running Dace Banks village hall at a seminar solved the problem, we just needed to find some parking and the sports field obliged.  When I asked about refreshments, the ladies of the village hall were keen – what a good spread they put on at reasonable prices, thanks to all those who sampled their home made wares and made catering worthwhile for them.
Dacre Banks pushed the area further south than any previous events but the A59 was always going to be a natural boundary.  The complex minor road network in the SE would pose some navigational challenges, I am sorry if you felt that the bridleways were poor – you should have seen the ones that I didn’t send you on!  I personally have never seen the ground as waterlogged as it was this year, in fact I changed some control locations to avoid the worst areas.
Looking at the splits there is no commonality of routes, a lot of competitors concentrated on the S side but that area was surprisingly undulating.  Overall winner M21 Rik Thompson 433 pts went E then clockwise, aiming to get them all I think because he didn’t miss any out until near the end, but ran out of time to achieve a clean sweep. Second was M40 Neil Reed 425 pts, he did the SE corner and then went clockwise, coming in from the NE to finish; M40 Stuart Pitches was 5 pts behind with a similar but slightly different route. A tremendous 4th overall from the Vesty generation pair scored 415 pts, they zig-zagged about in the S initially before picking up the NE corner to finish strongly.
First lady Dawn Westrum 371 pts was a comfortable winner of the female classes; mixed pair of Richard Butler/Helen Carter 343 pts just shaded the (much older) Fosters by 2 pts so moral victory to Steve and Andrea  – 34 secs faster and they would have tied.
I had a big help from Alun Powell in putting out controls and the event would not have been possible if Barbara Willis had not found the missing clear, check and start blocks at home and couriered them to a meeting place just off the A1 from whence I was able to get them to Dacre Banks for exactly 10am – whew!  NYMBO and NEMBOS participants must also remember that Steve Willis’s enthusiasm and dedication is the main reason that these events happen – Steve does not always get a competitive ride so a personal thank you Steve for making sure these events take place.

Organiser’s Comments
What a great day to finish the season. We have had a few wet days so it was great to have a beautiful autumn day in Nidderdale and another excellent course planned by David Day. Thanks as ever to the helpers who made everything run smoothly and Jens for a very clear and accurate map.
The event went well once Barbara had brought the start and finish blocks which I had forgotten!! Dacre Banks & Hartwith village hall made an excellent event centre and the refreshments were delicious.
Looking at the splits everyone went in very different directions but Rik Thompson chose the best route. Martin & Max scored remarkably well again and Ray Morriss rode well after injury. Steve & Andrea won the Mixed battle and I thoroughly enjoyed my ride on the lanes between Thruscross and Birstwith. Thanks to the riders who found the lost SI dibber and my watch.
Prizes were presented to the leading riders so thanks to Rob and Anne from Yorkshire Dales Brewery for the gift packs; Tony Harker from Muddybums for the Tshirts; Chris Lightfoot for engraving the glasses and John Dixon for the bike prizes from Halfords.
The winter events start on Nov 10th at the Hambleton Inn and the 2013 league will start again in March. Please let me know if you want to plan an event.

NIdderdale MBO

It’s the final league event of the season on Saturday (13th) so it’s great to have 95 pre-entries. Online entry has closed but there will be 30 spare maps for anyone who decides to enter on the day.
David Day has planned an excellent course and it’s always a pleasure to ride around this area of outstanding natural beauty.
The event centre is at Dacre Banks Village Hall (not Dacre) and parking is on the sports field 400m away
Refreshments will be on sale all day with all profits going to the village hall so please support them
Registration opens earlier than usual at 9.30 with starts between 10 and 11. We are short of control collectors so please let me know if you would be able to help.
Presentation of league prizes will take place at 3.30 so please stay to applaud the leading riders. Engraved trophies for the category winners as well as prizes donated by Muddybums and Yorkshire Dales Brewery.
I am still finalising the winter events so fliers will be ready by the weekend.
