French MTBO Championships

Congratulations to 3 of our regular riders who won the Five Day event at Fontainbleu Forest this week. Ed Oliver Evans in M18 and Andrew Windrum deadheating with Andy Conn in M40 after over 5 hours riding and over 20 minutes ahead of the third rider. Hopefully, they will be back in time to ride at Silton and Boltby this Saturday. Another forest but slightly different riding!

Harewood MBO Comments

Neil Reed had planned an excellent course which encouraged us to use a mixture of roads and bridleways in this beautiful area less than 10 miles from Leeds city centre. I decided to stay on the bridleways around Harewood and Eccup and really appreciated the views across Wharfedale in the evening sunshine. Edwin decided to visit all of the 30 point controls and did it so well that he won overall ahead of local rider Tim Patterson, his Dad and the Generation pair of Adrian & Nathan Parker. The Sun Inn provided an excellent event centre and managed to serve our meals as soon as we finished despite the extra custom that the England game brought in. We could then enjoy the second half.
There were 33 riders which was a pleasant surprise as I only had 7 online and 10 email entries by the closing date on Sunday evening. I was glad I took my computer and printer for the extra 16 maps that were needed!!
Frank Appleton is recovering from knee surgery and planning the next evening event on Wednesday 11th July from the Blue Bell at Kirby Hill near Boroughbridge – so a chance to ride around the area where I lived for 25 years!! Hopefully we will see you there or at the next  league event at Silton & Boltby Forests near Thirsk on July 14th

Harewood MBO event

Only 10 pre-entries for Tuesday evening but the event is still on. The England v Ukraine match doesn’t kick off until 8pm so you can watch it in the New Inn after your ride. Please enter online tonight (Sunday) or reply to this post if you still want to reserve a map.

Ingleton MBO results

Ingleton Results (spreadsheet) | results with splits

It was great to ride a new area and extend the OvergroundUnderground programme. The tracks were very dry despite the recent rain which held off on Saturday. There were 3 very distinctive areas – the quiet lanes around Bentham, the superb singletracks around Austwick and the tough bridleways around Ingleborough and Whernside. I didn’t think anyone would clear up but Andy Conn nearly did!! It was a difficult course to get right as you had to commit yourself to going to Dentdale early on and it’s a long way back. You also needed to decide whether to get the easy points around Bentham and Austwick first or leave them until the end. Some riders got it right and some got it badly wrong

I had 4 great planning rides – the first one after theAGMin December which included the new Pennine Bridleway – and, judging by your comments, you all enjoyed the countryside. Unfortunately there were only 72 riders so we only just broke event. As we normally get about 130 riders further east I will have to consider whether we come back to Ingleton next year – or ask XCC if they want to plan it as 6 of the controls were inCumbria!!

Thanks to Jens for another excellent map, the helpers for making everything run smoothly and the volunteers who collected all the controls. The school made a great event centre despite the low toilets and not being able to park on the field.

Congratulations to the category winners especially Andy Conn who scored an incredible 489 points – 19 ahead of Andrew Windrum and 20 more than Graham Fielding (3rd overall and M50 winner). Ray Morris won M60 (and 4th overall) with 440 points; Helen Jackson & Paul Vousden won X21 with 395 points (and 7th overall) matching Simon Grainger’s winning M21 score; Sheila Pierce outscored the other women to win W40 with 365 points; James & Richard took advantage of the Vesty’s absence to win the Generation class with 350 points; and Karen & Steve pipped Chris & Ralph by 20 points in X50. John Dixon is adding your points to the league and I’ll post it on the web sites in the next couple of days.

There were only 3 riders who opted for the 2 hour course so it’s obviously not working. I have decided to scrap both Short Course Leagues with immediate effect and replace it with a Novice (2 hour) option which will be half price. I will alter the NYMBO and NEMBOS fliers this week.

There are 2 more events this month so please enter online asap or send me an email.

Saturday 16th June Kildale

4 hour NEMBOS league event –further south than last year so more stunning moorland, a few private estate tracks and an old railway line

Tuesday 19th June New Inn, Eccup (NOT Wednesday as previously advertised)

2 hour NYMBO Summer evening Score event around Harewood & Wharfedale

The next NYMBO League event is at Silton & BoltbyForeston Saturday 14th July

Hope to see you at another event soon.

Steve Willis

PS Don’t forget that all events (3 hours of longer) that use Sportident are included in the BMBO National Rankings with your best 10 scores to count

PPS I am still planning the Polaris is in the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday/Sunday 22nd/23rd September and there will be 5 options – 7&5 hours with overnight camp, 5&4 hours without overnight camp, 4 hours on Saturday or 3 hours on Sunday, 40/20k fixed routes on Saturday and 30/15k fixed routes on Sunday. Plenty of choice for all abilities so why not enter?

Ingleton MBO Update

I’ve had 3 excellent days checking out the bridleways in the stunning scenery around Ingleborough and Whernside. We have got 65 pre-entries and there are still 20 spare maps for any late entries. Hope you take the opportunity to ride through the arches to get to one of the controls!!

Hudswell MBO Results

Thanks to the 4 riders that turned up to enjoy the tracks around Richmond. Hudswell results We were using the spare maps from the event that was cancelled last winter due to the snow. No extra expense for NYMBO and a good excuse to ride my local tracks again to check the controls but very disappointed with the numbers. If they don’t pick up this summer there won’t be a NYMBO summer evening series in 2013.
Our next evening event is on a Tuesday (19th June) at the New Inn, Eccup and it is part of the Bike week so hopefully Neil Reed will get more riders to appreciate his course.
The next NEMBOS event is this Saturday at Grassholme Reservoir near Middleton on Tees. We have got 45 pre-entries and there are 15 spare maps so please email if you want to reserve one.
The next NYMBO league event is at Ingleton on Saturday 2nd June. It is a 5 hour event and part of the OvergroundUnderground weekend so hope to see you there.
